The Fortnite Experience On PS5 Is Fast, Fluid, And Fun

DualSense Haptics And 60FPS Split-Screen Made Fortnite Incredibly Fun on PS5!

Story Highlight
  • Fortnite runs very smoothly on the PS5 and loads much faster than before.
  • The game also looks better than ever, thanks to the upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.
  • At the same time, Fortnite remains very fun and engaging.

Until recently, I was not playing much Fortnite. After having played the game during its heyday, I drifted away from the battle-royale for a long while. However, Chapter 5 sparked my interest, and my friends insisted I try the game on PS5.

Going into Fortnite on PS5, I was curious whether the SSD would make a notable difference and how Unreal Engine 5 would influence the experience. Here’s my conclusion after playing the game again for a whole week using my DualSense controller.

Why it matters: Fortnite is currently dominating the entire live-service genre, being one of the most played titles on the PS5.

Game-Changing Speed

Fortnite Is Faster Than Ever On New Hardware

Fortnite is much faster than I expected on the PS5. Jumping into a match from a cold boot used to take well over a minute on PS4, but the PS5 made it possible to do so in just twenty seconds.

Playing at 120FPS made the whole experience even better, allowing me to build with incredible precision. Finally, I was able to enjoy split-screen couch co-op gameplay at 60FPS thanks to the PS5’s Zen 2 CPU and other hardware.

Revamped Visuals

Fortnite on Unreal Engine 5 offers a completely new experience thanks to Nanite and Lumen. Quality mode allowed Lumen to shine in all its glory, while I enjoyed the fluidity of 120FPS when playing on Performance mode.

Elsewhere, the DualSense proved to be a game-changer. Each Cobra DMR shot was accompanied by a new sense of resistance thanks to the controller, and Haptic Feedback on the triggers added an extra layer of immersion in elements like the storm walls and glider.

All of this led to the game feeling better than ever, which made each session less tiring than it used to be.

An Endless Amount of Fun

Endless Fun Awaits In Fortnite

At the end of the day, Fortnite on the PS5 was extremely fun. Split-screen gameplay enabled simultaneous progress, and I could even use Share Screen to broadcast my gameplay at 1080p to my friends with little to no latency.

Cross-play also made playing with other platforms a breeze. Additionally, PlayStation’s Fall sale brought an unexpected perk. A limited edition DualSense with the Peely and Fishstick art went on sale in November, serving as a reminder of the ongoing events regarding the game. You can learn more on the game’s official PlayStation Store page.

In conclusion, Fortnite on the PS5 has given me a reason to stick with the game. Epic is still iterating elements like Creative Islands on the console, and the PS5 Pro offers additional visual upgrades.

However, the core PS5 experience is already solid enough for me to continue playing for several more months.
