- Firebreak brings a chaotic coop by throwing in multiple enemies in the form of zombies, guards and even large bosses.
- It’s like playing as a hero in an action film where objects are flying around, and you probably work to take out the enemies and the fire.
- It is made by Remedy, which has made Alan Wake, Max Payne, and Control, so they know how to make games stand out.
In a world full of sequels and remakes, Firebreak is an upcoming game that serves as a refreshing title, much needed for 2025. Its trailer has only been released, which gives a glimpse of what the game contains, and it is pure chaos.
Chaotic FPS
The game’s essence is zombie survival, but it does it with its twist. There is no spooky environment where you’d feel the horror. Instead, the theme seems to be chaos. This is more chaotic than Fragpunk, which is also quite absurd.
Uncontrollable AI
From the trailer, you can see there are zombies, but there are also other human enemies who shoot you. Additionally, there are zombies that are floating in the air. Combining all of these AI, it’s a massacre, and you are in constant action.
Chaotic Environment
Part of what makes this game chaotic is the environment of the game. The most notable map from the trailer is the office setting, where there are tons of sticky notes present throughout the map.
Now you can throw Molotovs on these sticky notes, destroy them using your melee weapon or even fire water bullets at them, and they’ll fly up all over the place. The aftermath appears to be like walking through a cloud of confetti.
The Visibility Is Affected
The game’s physics is such that the player’s screen is affected by the objects from their environment. For example, these flying sticky notes can get stuck on your screen, which can hinder your vision.
Now you have to fight with the unpredictable zombies, take out the fire, all the while having a limited vision. Similarly, if you stand under a water sprinkler or in the rain, you’ll see water droplets dripping onto your screen.
Firefighters
As the name suggests, Firebreak makes use of fire a lot in the entire game. From the trailer, it appears as if we’re a bunch of firefighters whose aim is to take out the fire along with the zombies that have infested those areas.
At many instances, we can see that we’re taking out the fire using our water splashing weapon. At one instance, the player shot a sprinkler, which caused water to pour all over the ground.
There’s even a funny weapon that appears to be sucking the fire from the evniovemnet and using that fire to warm the tea pot. There is another weapon that propels us to an elevated platform, allowing us to put out the fire in that area.
You’re Not Alone
You won’t be alone taking out the fire since it’s a coop game. Even though the game will feature cross-play multiplayer, the total number of players is unknown, and the trailer suggests that it could be a 6-player co-op game.
While 2025 has already gotten Split-Fiction, which has redefined the coop genre, Firebreak utilises a different approach when it comes to coop. It feels more like the new take on Left 4 Dead 2.
Interestingly, Left 4 Dead 2 was only created because its prequel was broken at its core. Firebreak seems to be built with the intention of having refinement right from the start.
Boss Fights
Not only would there be smaller enemies like the zombies and the guards, but the trailer also shows us a glimpse of a giant boss that we would be fighting. From the trailer, we can see a boss made out of sticky notes.
From this, we can predict that with each map, the bosses will be formed from the amalgamation of the environment. Here, sticky notes were the prominent theme, so the boss took the shape of these notes, which is a cool addition.
Made By A Great Studio
It isn’t surprising that the game looks promising considering who’s behind. It is created by Remedy Entertainment, the same developers behind Max Payne, Alan Wake, and Control.
Remedy is often underrated, as it doesn’t receive the same level of attention as other AAA studios. They do operate in the shadows of other mainstream developers, but with Firebreak, their underdog energy works in their favour.
Firebreak could act as the perfect blueprint that future games could follow since Remedy has that magical touch, which we’ve seen in their previous successful titles. This will be a mid-priced game launching later in 2025.
