Fallout 3 Remastered Is Expected To Overhaul Gameplay Mechanics Like Oblivion Remastered!

Story Highlight
  • According to Fallout 3 designer Bruce Nesmith, the remaster may feature Fallout 4-style gunplay mechanics.
  • The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered brought a lot of gameplay overhauls and improvements over the original release.
  • Virtuous is also rumored to be developing a Fallout 3 Remastered, suggesting it will receive similar treatment to address old criticisms.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered shadowdropped yesterday after years of rumors, shifting the focus of gamers to the Fallout 3 Remastered next. Both these entries first appeared in the same legal documents years ago, so the hype for the series is through the roof.

Considering Virtuous is also rumored to be developing the remaster edition of Fallout 3, the original game’s designer, Bruce Nesmith, argues that the developers might finally overhaul the game’s controversial and lousy gunplay mechanics, just like they did in Oblivion.

Why it matters: Fallout 3’s remaster means that all core mechanics may be overhauled, not just the visuals, which would improve the overall gameplay and address many of the RPG’s longstanding criticisms.

Fallout 3 Remastered also might get a lot of gameplay overhauls like in Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remastered.

In an interview with VideoGamer, the Fallout 3 designer clarifies that the game’s gunplay was lacking, but the franchise saw huge improvements in the next game. The remaster is also expected to overhaul gunplay and implement improvements similar to those seen in Fallout 4.

[Fallout 3 combat] didn’t hold up to shooters at the time. […] But a lot of work was done on that for Fallout 4. So I anticipate seeing a lot of that work go into it, assuming they’re doing the same thing.

Besides fresh visuals and textures, Fallout 3 Remastered may feature improved hit reactions, animations, sound effects, and other enhancements to further enhance the gameplay experience. However, it is unclear exactly how ambitious the project is, as Bethesda has not officially confirmed these details.

Additionally, the remaster might not be released for the next couple of years if Virtuous is behind the helm. A prominent leaker also acknowledged that it is a long way off, despite the show’s popularity.

Do you think the upcoming and highly rumored Fallout 3 Remastered edition will also feature plenty of overhauled gameplay mechanics like Oblivion Remastered? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
