Another Live-Service Title Added To The Scrap Heap?

Update: DestinLegarie has confirmed, after speaking with Michael Patcher, that there is no information on whether the game has been canceled. It seems like Patcher mispoke.

I misspoke. Said Jade was let go, and assumed it was cancelled. I have no info on the game at all. Feel free to quote this, I truly don’t know.

Story Highlight
  • Sony announced Fairgames, a live-service title, in 2023.
  • Since its reveal, the company has remained silent, fueling speculation of cancellation.
  • An insider now reports that the game has indeed been canceled, despite Sony’s recent commitment to expanding its live-service portfolio.

Fairgames was announced back in 2023, but little has been heard about the project since then. After the colossal failure of Concord, which had once been positioned as the future of PlayStation, Sony decided to shelve many of its live-service titles.

The company ultimately canceled more than half of these projects, though it has maintained its commitment to the model. Sony has admitted that the approach has been difficult so far, but it remains optimistic due to standout successes like Helldivers 2.

According to a new insider report, Fairgames has now been canceled as well.

Why it matters: Sony is best known for its strong single-player games, and many believe it should focus on that strength. Live-service titles can succeed, but making them a major priority risks harming what sets PlayStation apart.

Fairgames was unveiled at the 2023 PlayStation Showcase by Haven Studios as a competitive, PvP-focused heist shooter. However, since its reveal, both the developer and Sony have remained silent, with no trailers, updates, or release window shared.

Some reports previously suggested that the game had been delayed to 2026, but now a new report has surfaced online. The latest report reveals that it has joined Sony’s canceled games roster.

Michael Patcher, a high-profile gaming research analyst, reveals in a YouTube video that Fairgames has been canceled. He said that Sony turned all of its console developers into live-service developers, which caused turmoil, resulting in Concord and its studio being shut down.

Sony’s Live-Service Strategy Has Been A Disaster So Far.

Following that, Jade Raymond, the founder of Haven Studios, was let go, and according to Patcher, her game was also canceled. It is worth noting that Haven Studios has only been working on Fairgames.

Which resulted in Jade Raymond being let go and her game cancelled.

While Pathcer is a reliable insider, Sony has not confirmed anything, so we highly recommend fans take this news with a grain of salt.
