Ex-Bethesda Dev Says He’s Highly Skeptical About Elder Scrolls 6

'They're Making Something Different Than I Would've Done'

Story Highlight
  • Former Bethesda dev says he’s unsure about what to expect from Elder Scrolls 6.
  • He says they’re doing something different from what he would’ve done.
  • That’s the reason he’s skeptical of it, because he isn’t sure what Bethesda will do.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is one of the most anticipated titles of all time. Bethesda’s most decorated franchise got its last mainline installment in 2011 with the release of Skyrim, so fans have been waiting for almost 15 years now.

However, a former Bethesda developer has voiced his concern about the upcoming entry, and he is skeptical about The Elder Scrolls 6. He says he doesn’t really understand where Bethesda will go with the lore.

Why it matters: The Elder Scrolls franchise has a deep and immersive lore that is a primary part of the overall experience, so Bethesda has to keep that in mind for the next entry as well.

Talking to the Kiwi Talkz podcast, Bethesda veteran Kurt Kuhlmann expressed his concerns about The Elder Scrolls 6. He says the team in charge will likely try to do something different, like Elder Scrolls Online, and he isn’t sure about it.

For context, Kuhlmann was the genius mastermind behind the original Oblivion and Skyrim, so this is coming from someone pivotal for the franchise. He said he doesn’t know what they’re doing, but it’s different from what he would’ve done.

They’re making something different than what I would have done, and so I don’t know how I’m going to feel when I see it.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is expected to be officially revealed this year

The consensus around The Elder Scrolls 6 is in a weird spot. Previously, an ex-developer also said that the game is unlikely to meet expectations. Also, since Bethesda hasn’t delivered the best titles for the last few years, people are second-guessing

Nonetheless, this doesn’t change the fact that the reveal would be a hyped affair. There were reports that the title will have a Hammerfell setting, and it would be revealed this year, but there hasn’t been an official word yet.
