"The 'Woke Mind Virus' Kills The Art".

Story Highlight
  • Elon Musk says that forcing DEI and other narratives into games kills the art.
  • He said it kicks you out of the story and feels like you’re being lectured by someone.
  • The X boss also demanded that this ideology be removed and video games made great again.

DEI has become a huge topic in the industry ever since companies started pushing various agendas into gaming. While everyone has their opinion on it, most believe it destroys games. Even Tesla and X owner, Elon Musk seems to think the same.

Why it matters: Forcing inclusivity into gaming is a recipe for disaster as we have seen with recent games like Concord. Most think that it takes the narrative in a very different direction and kills art.

Elon Musk says forcing DEI into games kills the art

Elon Musk took to X to address his concerns about the trend of forcing DEI into gaming. He said that once you forcibly impose the ‘Woke Virus’ in a game, it kills the art. It cancels out the story and makes it feel like you’re being lectured.

Make Video Games Great Again! The problem with the DEI and the woke mind virus is that it kills the art

Many people have certain disagreements with Musk, however in this case many appear to be supporting him. The audience defended the take and reiterated that forced DEI is something that makes gaming a lot less fun.

Forcing inclusivity into gaming has become very common

Some developers have even started speaking out against this ever-increasing trend. Recently Ori game director also said that he won’t even force DEI into their games as it makes a mockery out of their work.

However, if DEI is implemented naturally and goes with the flow of the game it isn’t a bad thing. Some of the best games of this generation have had DEI, but they weren’t affected because it didn’t go out of the way and complemented the plot.

Nonetheless, as forced DEI becomes more mainstream, it is interesting to see that many people are speaking against it, and the fans share their thoughts as well.
