Elden Ring Franchise Hits Nearly 50 Million Sales In Under 4 Years

FromSoftware's Magnum Opus Continues To Soar!

Story Highlight
  • The Elden Ring franchise has now reached over 47 million sales in total.
  • 30 million of these come from the base game, while Shadow of the Erdtree accounts for 10 million sales.
  • The remaining sales come from Nightreign and its latest DLC offering.

Nearly four years after its initial debut, Elden Ring’s success is no secret. Following a blockbuster hit for FromSoftware, multiple Game of the Year wins, and a record-breaking DLC release, the title has taken this already-beloved studio to new heights.

Elden Ring also opened up opportunities for FromSoftware within the live-service genre, with the team trying something very different through Elden Ring: Nightreign earlier this year. Since then, the entire IP has soared close to 50 million sales.

Why it matters: The Dark Souls series has been on the market for much longer and has only sold about 40 million units, highlighting just how successful Elden Ring is today.

The Forsaken Hollow Now Boasts Over 2 Million Sales

Over on Twitter, FromSoftware recently confirmed that Elden Ring Nightreign: The Forsaken Hollow has sold 2 million units as of today. This DLC marks the series’ latest success, but Nightreign itself sold over 5 million copies, going by the last sales update.

On the other hand, Elden Ring itself currently boasts over 30 million units sold. When adding the 10 million sales of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, this series has moved close to 50 million sales in just over three years.

Although the series consists of just one full release so far, both Shadow of the Erdtree and Nightreign arrived as nearly full-priced games at launch, priced at $40. Elsewhere, Nightreign’s latest DLC is currently being sold for $15.

Elden Ring Continues To Demonstrate FromSoftware’s Talents As A Game Studio

This means that the Elden Ring IP’s offerings are not too different from a series with three separate releases, at least when going by the prices of each piece of content alone.

Ultimately, the 47 million milestone is a huge deal and should ensure FromSoftware continues to keep the IP relevant for many years to come. FromSoftware has also announced The Duskbloods as its next big title for 2026. Therefore, the next year will likely be even bigger for the studio.
