Every year, it feels like video game graphics have peaked, but then we get new titles with breathtaking visuals that are huge upgrades over the previous ones. This year, we’ve seen some outstanding releases, but some have stood out more.
Popular analysts have released an in-depth video crowning the best graphics of 2025, led by Doom: The Dark Ages and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Other notable names include Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, and more.
Why it matters: Visuals play a huge part in immersing players into the gaming experience. With technologies advancing beyond imagination, players expect the visuals to feel as realistic and tuned as possible as well.
Digital Foundry has revealed the list of the best-looking games in 2025. They have ranked the top 10 graphics, but only the first 3 are ordered, while the rest are in no specific order:
- Doom: The Dark Ages
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Death Stranding 2
The rest of the top 10 list includes Ghost of Yotei, Dying Light: The Beast, Metroid Prime 4, Mafia: The Old Country, Silent Hill f, Earthion, and Rotuine, all of which offer really striking and well-designed visuals.
Doom uses the new IDTech engine, and not only offers great graphics but also quite decent optimization. Some have argued that Death Stranding 2 deserves the top spot, but Shadows and Doom edge out with additional tech features.
However, there are some notable omissions, like the Best Art Direction winner at TGA, Expedition 33. Even Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 couldn’t make the list, and surprisingly, neither got honorable mentions.
