DMC Could Be Set For A Massive Comeback!

Story Highlight
  • Capcom says it needs to expand the lineup of its core IPs in the future.
  • It will expand to include other popular franchises like Devil May Cry and Mega Man.
  • Devil May Cry saw a massive resurgence following the hit Netflix Anime.

Capcom has had some insanely successful franchises over the years, highlighted by Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter. It also has some others that fans love, but haven’t had any recent releases like Dino Crisis and Devil May Cry.

The latter of which recently had a Netflix adaptation, which was surprisingly triumphant, clearly suggesting that fans still love the IP. Capcom has also shown interest in making Devil May Cry one of its core IPs going forward.

Why it matters: The last game in the franchise was Devil May Cry 5, released in 2019, which was a critically acclaimed title and Capcom’s highest-selling game outside of Resident Evil or Monster Hunter.

Capcom wants to make DMC one of its core IPs in the future

Capcom, in its 2025 Integrated Report, has stated that it needs more ‘core IPs’ going forward, apart from Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter. These IPs include Mega Man, Ace Attorney, and most notably, Devil May Cry.

We consistently release two to three major new titles each year (From the core IPs), but recognize the need to grow our pipeline going forward. Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney will grow into core IPs.

Sadly, for the company, quite a few from the team that worked on the franchise, including the series director, have left the studio. So, this could be one of the reasons they haven’t revisited the hack-and-slash series.

There has always been a demand for a sequel. Even Dante actor recently teased that Devil May Cry 6 is in Capcom’s plans. Even DMC 5 saw a massive resurgence with the release of Netflix’s Anime, reigniting the demand.

Nonetheless, this seems like a great time to get back to the series. Capcom is set to launch Resident Evil Requiem in February 2026, and maybe they might announce a new DMC game after that.
