The Map Screen Is Causing These PS5s To Overheat!

Story Highlight
  • Many players across online forums are reporting that Death Stranding 2 is causing their PS5s and their other variants to overheat.
  • The game’s map screen is the culprit behind the technical bug; the fans go wild, and the console eventually shuts down.
  • The usual gameplay runs completely fine for all these affected players. A recent patch seemingly failed to fix this issue.

The launch of Death Stranding 2 has been quite successful, with some dubbing it to be one of the best gaming sequels so far. For many, the entry is already the Game Of The Year 2025 winner, but it is still not free of game-breaking bugs that are affecting many gamers.

Many players across online forums are reporting that Death Stranding 2 is causing intense overheating issues for PS5 and its variants. Surprisingly, the culprit is not the visually pleasing gameplay but rather the title’s detailed map screen.

Why it matters: A potentially game-breaking and console-crashing bug is affecting these Death Stranding 2 players. It could be detrimental to the gameplay experience and these consoles entirely if Kojima Productions does not offer a real fix soon.

Opening the map screen of Death Stranding 2 causes the fans of the consoles to go haywire before players get a warning that it is overheating. The machine becomes extremely hot to the touch and just turns off later.

This dilemma is mostly affecting the base PS5 and Slim players, but a few reports of PS5 Pro users have also emerged across other threads. A possible explanation is that the map screen likely uncaps the frame rate, which pushes the GPU to its limits and causes overheating.

Some players have also noted that a recent patch failed to fix the issue entirely but has somewhat reduced it. So, it might only be a matter of time before Kojima Productions completely squashes this game-breaking bug.

Death Stranding 2 has had an otherwise positive reception in the community.

On a side note, Death Stranding 2 also received some negative reception for having ‘questionable tropes around women.’ However, analysts praised it for raising the bar for visuals on PS5 and for having incredibly fast loading times.

Do you think Kojima Productions will manage to fix the issue of PS5 overheating in the next Death Stranding 2 patch? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
