Treyarch is one of the most important studios of the Call of Duty IP, one that is often considered a pillar of the franchise, and veteran developers like David Vonderhaar have ensured that the studio has continued to produce quality games.
David Vonderhaar started his journey at Treyarch 18 years ago, becoming an integral part of the Black Ops franchise. The veteran developer served as the Studio Design Director of Treyarch, but his journey at the studio has come to an end.
Why it matters: David Vonderhaar was among the oldest and most experienced developers at Activision. His departure may prove to be a massive blow for the Call of Duty franchise.
The developer has announced his departure from Treyarch on LinkedIn, thanking the Call of Duty community and his coworkers for an incredible 18-year journey.
During his time with the franchise, David Vonderhaar helmed iconic releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2, which are often considered the greatest offerings in the franchise to date.
The developer was seen as a major figure in the Call of Duty community, with many appreciating his enthusiasm and approach to the Black Ops franchise over the years.
Fortunately, David Vonderhaar is not completely leaving the gaming industry. According to his LinkedIn post, the developer is involved in an undisclosed project and is excited about his new journey.
David Vonderhaar is one of the many veteran Treyarch developers to have left the studio recently. Not too long ago, Jason Blundell left the studio after 13 years and joined Deviation Games to pursue new opportunities in the gaming industry.
Treyarch is expected to lead the development of the Call of Duty game due in 2024, marking the first release from the studio without David Vonderhaar in nearly two decades.
