Lecture Announcement Led To Outrage Since Monster Hunter Wilds Extremely Unoptimized!

Story Highlight
  • Capcom was set to host an optimization lecture featuring Monster Hunter Wilds at CEDEC later this month.
  • This panel has now been cancelled due to public backlash and threats.
  • Despite the game’s success, it continues to receive criticism over PC performance.

Monster Hunter Wilds quickly became Capcom’s fastest-selling title earlier this year, but the game was held back by severe optimization issues. Whether it be on PC or consoles, the game ran poorly across all platforms.

Not much has changed since then. Monster Hunter Wilds remains in a similar state, prompting an interesting response when Capcom revealed a lecture on the game’s optimization for CEDEC 2025. However, days after the announcement, this lecture has now been cancelled.

Why it matters: PC optimization has led to a lot of concerns in recent years, so fans were not too happy when Monster Hunter Wilds was picked as an example of a smooth experience on the platform.

The lecture was officially scheduled for July 24, but the CEDEC website shows that it has been cancelled.

For context, CEDEC is a huge game development conference for all Japanese developers. It should also be noted that the lecture was specifically based on the game’s PC version, which is by far the worst platform for the game.

According to reports, public backlash to the announcement is directly responsible for this decision. Capcom has received several comments on social media recently, with many pointing out the poor state of Monster Hunter Wilds.

It is also reported that the gaming giant saw threats and harassment from fans, which likely contributed significantly to the final decision.

Analysts like Digital Foundry previously criticized Monster Hunter Wilds for performing poorly despite its outdated visuals. The game depicts all the problems associated with modern PC ports, which is made all the worse by Capcom’s relatively solid history of past PC releases.

Since launch, the gaming giant continues to work on updates to improve the Monster Hunter Wilds experience on PC. A recent tweet from July 4 outlines additional plans to pursue improvements, but it remains to be seen if future updates will bring the PC port up to par with expectations.
