Crowned Ultimate GOTY At Golden Joystick!

Story Highlights
  • Baldur’s Gate 3 has won its first major award tonight.
  • It has won the Ultimate Game of The Year during the Golden Joystick Awards.
  • Larian Studios won the Best Studio of the Year award.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was released just three months ago. While expectations weren’t sky-high for this RPG, it stunned everyone at launch, reaching over 875K players on Steam, becoming the second-biggest launch of 2023 on the platform.

The game is also the leading contender for next month’s awards, as it is one of the highest-rated PC games on Metacritic, with a score of 96/100. However, its success has already begun.

While The Game Awards 2023 is still a few weeks away, Baldur’s Gate 3 has already won multiple awards.

Why it matters: Though many games can be considered contenders for Game of the Year in 2023, Baldur’s Gate 3 may be the biggest contender for this award, as evidenced by its latest success.

During the 41st Golden Joystick Awards, Baldur’s Gate 3 won the Ultimate Game of The Year, the most prestigious award at the event. It should be noted that this award was voted on by the community.

The RPG was nominated along with the year’s biggest releases, like Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil 4, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Starfield, and more. However, Larian Studios’ incredible work has kept the team ahead.

Unsurprisingly, this wasn’t the only award it won at the event. It has also taken home the Best PC Game of the Year, beating releases like Diablo 4, Dave the Diver, and others.

Such unprecedented success has led to a lot of praise for the developers. Therefore, Larian Studios has earned the Studio of the Year award. While developers like CD Projekt RED and Remedy Entertainment did great work in 2023, they could not match the accomplishments of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Other successful categories for the RPG include visual design, storytelling, and a thriving game community. In total, the game has earned 7 awards during the event.

These accomplishments would not have been possible without a dedicated fanbase. To this day, the game is averaging over 130K players on Steam, standing tall above the competition.

With The Game Awards scheduled for December, this event has likely marked the beginning of many awards to come. Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the favorites to win Game of The Year at the upcoming event, but only time will tell if it will secure another major win for Larian Studios.
