Microsoft Helping Obsidian With Over 90 Staff Members!

Obsidian Entertainment is among the best RPG developers in the industry. The developer quickly became a favorite for RPG fans with critically acclaimed releases like Fallout New Vegas and The Outer Worlds.

In 2018, Microsoft acquired the developer, and Obsidian Entertainment is currently working on The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed. Both games are highly anticipated by audiences worldwide, but many have wondered how Microsoft’s acquisition has affected the developer.

Speaking with nme, Obsidian founder Feargus Urquhart elaborated on Microsoft’s acquisition. He also stated the simultaneous development of Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 would not be possible without Microsoft’s acquisition.

Obsidian Entertainment’s founder further elaborated that 90 extra staff members have joined the development studio since the acquisition. This has likely helped the team accelerate development while pursuing both projects simultaneously.

Feargus Urquhart had a lot of great things to say about Microsoft. He claimed that the team’s relationship with Microsoft is like a family where they take care of each other. Additionally, the founder also expanded on Microsoft’s freedom for the studio. He said:

“We’re given a ton of freedom; we’re given a ton of faith; we’re given great budgets; we’re given a ton of support.”

Recently, Microsoft has proceeded with thousands of layoffs, affecting developers like 343 Industries. Following the reports, many quickly questioned Microsoft’s treatment and management abilities.

However, Obsidian Entertainment’s founder seems to have complete faith in Microsoft. The gaming giant has allowed the developer to expand with more people, and Avowed is shaping up to be a fantastic addition to Microsoft’s growing line-up of upcoming first-party games.

The developer recently released Pentiment, a smaller-scale game. Despite the indie nature of the release, critics and fans have continued to praise the game, leading to even more faith in Obsidian Entertainment’s next games.

Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 are unlikely to be released anytime soon, but fans will not be disappointed, going by Obsidian Entertainment’s previous track record.
