Steam Deck Verification Suggests An Optimized Launch!

Story Highlight
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been officially verified for Steam Deck at launch.
  • Being Steam Deck verified implies an optimized release for the game.
  • The console ports also look to be tuned, suggesting a solid launch for the game.

With just a few days until launch, Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be officially verified for Steam Deck. They’re currently waiting for Valve’s level of classification, a rating system for how well the game performs on the handheld device.

Why It Matters: With the release of other handheld consoles, many feared that the Steam Deck was finally starting to show age because it lagged behind in the hardware department. However, the handheld is still strong, with verified AAA releases at launch.

The Steam Deck verification does imply an optimized release, which makes sense after all these delays.

While Assassin’s Creed Shadows will push the boundaries of visual fidelity more than any entry in the series, the game’s graphical settings will be highly customizable to fit accordingly to lower or higher-end PCs.

Moreover, the console release also looks exciting. The game runs at 4k upscaled on all the consoles except the Series S, which supports a 1620p upscaled resolution, which is still quite impressive.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is another recent AAA release that intends to make Ray Tracing a standard option rather than an optional one. When it releases, it’s unknown what the game will look like with the setting turned off.
