Assassin’s Creed Shadows, released earlier this year, received a lot of criticism for many, many reasons. The game had been criticised from the start, and because of that, Ubisoft had to make sure it released a really polished version. 

However, on launch, the game, as well as Ubisoft, were still under fire. The company was relying solely on its performance; if it were a failure, it would have gone bankrupt. While the performance wasn’t that good, Ubisoft managed to survive thanks to a deal with Tencent. Now, the game Ubisoft was hoping that would save the company has fewer players than a 7-year-old AC title.  

Why it matters: If a game is great, fans play it for a long time, especially if it is an RPG. For reference, games like Elden Ring still have a 24-hour peak of over 50K players. Similarly, Cyberpunk 2077, another RPG, has over 30K 24-hour player peak.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was released seven years ago, and it still manages to get a 24-hour peak of over 8k players. At the time of writing, there are 2913 players playing it. On the other hand, Assassin’s Creed Shadows only has a 24-hour peak of 7.7k players, and only 2788 are playing it right now. 

You may remember how AC Odyssey was criticised on launch. Many shared the opinion that it was a good RPG but not a good Assassin’s Creed game. That is why it is pretty disappointing to see that a newly launched AC game is performing worse than the one released back in 2018.

It should also be noted that people seem to have a slight positive bias when it comes to games set in Japan. This country is absolutely gorgeous and has a great history. Despite that, the Shadows’ performance is disappointing
