After Nvidia, AMD Is Also Reportedly Prioritizing 8GB GPUs

Another Price Hike Incoming For February or March!

Story Highlight
  • AMD is just fresh from a recent price hike that surged GPU prices by around 5-10%.
  • The company is now prioritizing 8GB GPUs, and there will be another price increase.
  • Nvidia recently also did the same and is also prioritizing entry to mid-level GPUs.

GPU prices have been soaring lately, with MSRPs not being a thing anymore. Nvidia has already been called out for being anti-consumer, while AMD did show intent on keeping the prices stable, but that doesn’t seem like the case anymore.

According to a new report, AMD is going to prioritize 8GB GPUs from now on, and there will be another price hike. Nvidia previously reportedly did the same and is now focusing mostly on 8GB graphics cards as well.

Why it matters: Because of the abnormally high memory prices, to attain maximum profits, companies are using less VRAM to keep the investment to a minimum, and entry-level cards are being prioritized.

AMD 8GB GPUs
AMD is shifting focus entirely towards 8GB graphics cards

The report (via Board Channels) claims that, based on the memory issues, AMD is readjusting its product line, with a primary focus on 8GB GPUs. This means Radeon RX 9060 XT 8GB will be AMD’s primary graphics card for 2026.

The company has already informed its AIB partners, and there will be another price hike in February or March, which will lead the prices to go even higher. The focus on the 16GB cards will be significantly reduced.

The GPU prices are now at their highest in many years

Nvidia has been doing the same. The RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 are being sold at incredibly high prices. The only GPUs that are readily available are RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti 8GB. This will now be the case for AMD, too.
