These are exciting times for AMD, especially when it has started to catch up to Nvidia in the GPU market. The processor market is no different, as Team Red is gaining momentum that it may even leave behind its competitor, Intel, in the dust.
To further add to this debate, a massive shift towards AMD is being made by gamers. The latest Steam Hardware Survey shows that more than 40% of the users are currently rocking with Team Red, the highest they have been in 17 years.
Why it matters: It’s surprising to see how AMD is overtaking Intel after decades of being buried under the competition. Their innovation and result-yielding work has truly paid off for them.
Intel saw a 0.75% decline in Steam users last month while AMD gained 0.74% of the user base. These figures may look small in contrast, but it should be noted that Steam has almost 132 million active users monthly, which puts the shift in user base quite significant.
Furthermore, results also show that Intel’s most popular CPU category lies between 2.3 GHz and 2.69 GHz, which has declined by 0.57% this month. For AMD, however, stats are much higher at 3.7 GHz and above, with a 0.86% rise this month.
This shows that the newer upgrades are being made towards Team Red. It’s no surprise, though, since newer AMD chipsets are better than Intel in every regard, whether it’s performance or pricing.
If anything, these stats show that Intel is losing its grip on the PC gaming market. The once-renowned chip manufacturer has now also fallen out of the top 10 semiconductor businesses.
Team Red’s traction among gamers started in 2017 after the introduction of Ryzen processors, and it’s only a matter of time till they surpass Intel.
