AMD B850 Motherboards Surge In Sales Due To Price Decrease And Is Expected To Overtake B650 Soon

B650 Finally Loses Ground to Newer Models!

Story Highlight
  • Between January and October 2025, the cost of B850 motherboards fell sharply, making them much more attractive to buyers.
  • Because of the price cuts, B850 market share jumped from 0% to nearly 29% in just ten months.
  • As the B850 rises, the older B650 series has lost a large chunk of the market, dropping from roughly 53% to 37%.

When you’re thinking about purchasing a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Ryzen 7 7800X3D, or a similar processor with 3D V-Cache, you’ve probably considered which motherboard to buy. Newer motherboards are always more expensive, particularly at launch, but prices tend to fall over time.

With these decreased prices, AMD has been able to increase sales of B850 motherboards in 2025, which are expected to overtake B650 soon.

Although many people build their own computers, the majority lack the time and expertise to choose and assemble the essential components. As a result, a large portion of PCs sold are pre-built by other companies or even small sellers. This explains why the B650’s M-ATX configuration accounts for a staggering 91.05% of AMD AM5 motherboard sales.

While ATX is typically used for custom-built PCs due to the vast amount of space available within the chassis, this format is also widespread in pre-built PCs.

The trend is even more evident in the A520 series, where 99.51% of motherboards purchased are M-ATX, which is understandable given that it is the previous generation’s entry-level range. The newer AMD B850 series exhibits a considerable shift.

M-ATX continues to dominate with 74.69% of sales, although 21.46% are ATX boards, and a minor fraction are Mini-ITX, which are not commonly found in pre-built PCs due to their greater cost.

AMD Chart

In January 2025, the B850s sold for an average of 332,806 won, or €195. In contrast, the B650s cost 196,881 won (€116). Fast forward to October 2025, and everything has changed. The B850s now retail for 263,285 won (€ 155), the B650s for 155,929 won (€ 91), while the A520s have barely decreased in price.

Although all models have seen price decreases, the B850s have benefited the most, with consumers and companies purchasing them in droves. Another graph shows sales history, demonstrating that their market share rose from 0% in December 2024 to 28.8% in October 2025.

Meanwhile, sales of AMD B650 motherboards have decreased from 52.99% to 37.64% over the past year, while A520 sales have remained relatively stable. Despite losing nearly 30% of its market share over the last 10 months, ASUS remains the best-selling brand, with 37.64%. MSI is in second place with 28.8%, followed by ASRock, which has increased to 19.22% despite motherboard difficulties, and GIGABYTE with 14.33%.
