- AMD has gained nearly 40% more desktop CPU market share year-on-year, thanks to the successful release of the Ryzen 9000 lineup.
- Team Red achieves its peak popularity on Steam, with almost 40% of users on board.
- All hope rides on Nova Lake CPUs for 2026, and until then, expect continued AMD dominance.
Intel is going through a rough period as it lags behind the competition. AMD, on the other hand, is on a rising trajectory as it continues to close in on the gap with Team Blue.
New reports show that AMD is snatching away the CPU market share from rival Intel. Team Red’s desktop market share has gained 9.2 points or a 40% increase YoY, with the latest Ryzen 9000 series CPUs being a successful release.
Why it matters: For decades, Intel has claimed the top spot in the CPU market, with AMD struggling to play catch-up. However, their lack of innovation and awareness of competition is gradually pushing them aside.
According to new data shared by Mercury Research (data provided by AMD), Team Red has been steadily gaining new customers on the server and desktop front. This year, they reported a 20.5% year-over-year increase in revenue in the desktop segment.
Previous reports also revealed that newer CPU customers are shifting heavily towards AMD since the newer Ryzen 9000 CPUs overpower Intel’s 14th-gen processors.
Moreover, AMD CPUs have also reached a peak popularity on Steam after 17 years, with 40% users now rocking Team Red.
On the server end, a minor 3.4% increase was made in market share compared to last year, while revenue was bumped up by a staggering 7.2%.
The mobile CPU market share is the only place AMD is lagging behind, or worse, has lost market share. They actually lost 1.9% market share from the last quarter, but it’s still a 0.3% increase year-over-year. Revenue was also slashed by 0.7% from last quarter, but it is a jump of 3.8% compared to last year.
Looks like it’ll be another few tough months for Intel until 2026, when they plan to release the next generation of Nova Lake CPUs. Till then, expect Team Red’s continued dominance.
