It Has Also Sold Over 2 Million Units!

Story Highlight
  • Alan Wake 2 has finally started earning royalties for Remedy Entertainment.
  • The game wasn’t profitable for the longest time even after over a year since release.
  • It has now finally recouped all the development costs and marketing investments.

Alan Wake 2 redefined the horror genre in 2023 and was one of the best games released that year. It won multiple awards and was also nominated for the Game of The Year award. However, its sales never took off as much as Remedy might’ve expected.

Despite doing so well, Alan Wake 2 couldn’t recoup its development costs for the longest time, but now, 16 months later, the studio has announced that the game is finally profitable and has sold over 2 million units.

Why it matters: The studio decided to skip Steam in favor of the Epic Games Store, in addition, it also was a digital release only, which led to the sales suffering and the game not even breaking even with its costs.

Alan Wake 2 has finally recouped its development costs after almost a year and a half.

According to the latest report from Remedy Entertainment, by the end of 2024, Alan Wake 2 recouped all development costs and marketing investments and is now earning royalties for the studio, more than a year and a half after its release.

Alan Wake 2 finally received a physical release in the fall of 2024, which could’ve contributed to the sales. Moreover, it has also received a couple of expansions, that in turn set up the next future installments for the Remedy Connected Universe.

The game couldn’t earn royalties for a very long time but is finally profitable.

Nevertheless, it is great to see that the game is finally profitable. It was unarguably one of the best releases of 2023 and continues to do well. However, it can sell even better, if the studio finally decides on a Steam launch, which for now doesn’t seem planned
