PlayStation Paying Close Attention To Rapidly Growing PC Gaming Market In Japan

The Consoles Dominance Seems To Be Changing In Japan

PlayStation has slowly transitioned to releasing exclusive first-party titles to the PC platform. Not too long ago, it would have been inconceivable to imagine games like God of War, Spider-Man, The Last of US, and Uncharted 4 on PC, but many PlayStation games are now available on the platform.

Fans have been pleased with this recent move, and many hope to see PlayStation continue this trend. A new interview with Sony Interactive Entertainment Platform SVP talks about Sony’s interest in PC gaming, and it looks like the fans will not be disappointed.

Talking to Famitsu, SIE SVP Hideaki Nishino stated that Sony is paying close attention to the growing PC market in Japan

During the interview, Hideaki Nishino was asked about his thoughts on the growing shift toward PC gaming in Japan. Consoles have traditionally dominated the Japanese region, and Sony and Nintendo have led the Japanese gaming market. However, this seems to be changing now as around 16 million Japanese gamers play on PC, that’s up 45% from 11 million in 2015.

Hideaki Nishino had this to say about the recent excitement for PC gaming in Japan,

“We recognize the number of users is increasing in the gaming PC market, and we see it as a large market not only in Japan but also globally.”

“We have been paying attention to it for some time.”

The SVP’s statement represents PlayStation’s recent moves in the gaming market. PlayStation games like Marvel’s Spider-Man have seen massive success on PC, and titles like The Last of Us Part 1 will soon be headed to the platform.

Herman Hulst also talked about the possibility of offering live service games on day one on PC. PlayStation is currently working on several live service games, and fans will be glad to know that the PC platform will not miss out on those titles.

Furthermore, Hideaki Nishino has stated that Sony is interested in providing unique PlayStation functions by linking Steam and PSN accounts. An example of this scenario has already been seen in Marvel’s Spiderman, where players could unlock certain costumes early by linking their accounts.

Going by the response, right now might be the best time to be a PC owner. PlayStation’s first-party titles have always been a strong argument for switching to the platform, but the company is committed to bringing more and more games to PC.

Moreover, PC owners can enjoy all of Microsoft’s first-party content, allowing them to experience the best output from both console manufacturers. Japan has taken a liking to the PC platform, and it looks like Sony is also on board.
