- New scale comparisons with past BF games reveal that Battlefield 6 has some of the series’ smallest maps.
- Not a single map in the game crosses over 0.5 square km of playable area, with the biggest one being Operation Firestorm.
- Battlefield 3 features the largest map, Bandar Desert, with an almost 2.5 square kilometer playable area.
Battlefield 6 has been a staggering success after launch, despite a few issues still holding it back. Players were concerned when the BF6 beta only featured small maps, but the studio had promised that the release would have much bigger offerings.
Unfortunately, the final launch also left many players feeling unsatisfied with the size of the maps, and for good reason. New evidence reveals that Battlefield 6 indeed features some of the smallest maps in the series.
Why it matters: Even the Battlefield 6 maps being smaller than those in many past games has sparked a new wave of backlash in the community against the developers.
A Reddit user has created a detailed scale comparison of all titles in the franchise since Battlefield 3, and it shows that Battlefield 6 is at the lower end in terms of map sizes. The comparisons include graphs with both the playable area and the total area of maps in square km.
For example, the largest BF6 map, Operation Firestorm, ranks 32nd in terms of playable area in the chart, with a coverage of less than 0.5 square kilometers. Battlefield 3 boasts the largest map, Bantar Desert, with nearly 2.5 square km of playable area for context.
Mirak Valley, the largest original Battlefield 6 map, is in 35th place, while the rest are found throughout the lower rankings in the graph.

Users have also criticized Battlefield 6 for not optimizing the maps for infantry gameplay, indicating that size is not the only issue at hand. The tunnel shape in most maps funnels gameplay to only certain areas, unlike past Battlefield games.
A concerning theory among players suggests that developers intentionally created smaller Battlefield 6 maps to promote its free-to-play REDSEC battle royale, which comes with a much bigger space to wage war.
The fans are now hoping that the new shooter will also get bigger and better maps via post-launch updates and DLCs down the road.
