- Battlefield 6’s technical director says that the limited memory of the Xbox Series S proved to be a challenge for them.
- As such, they spent time optimizing the game’s memory, which improved the game’s overall performance and stability.
- Most devs blame the Xbox Series S for being underwhelming, but the truth is that they’re too lazy.
Since its release in 2020, developers and gamers have been bashing the budget Xbox Series S console for holding back game development and not being powerful enough for the latest modern AAA games.
Now, Battlefield 6 devs have also stated the problems they encountered with the game’s development on the Xbox Series S. However, for once, they actually put effort into the game’s optimization, and the process resulted in the overall game running ‘better and more stable.’
Why it matters: Devs have been putting less and less effort into their games, often blaming hardware for the lack of performance instead of their own lack of effort. Xbox Series S has been proven to run games adequately if developers put some work into it.

Talking to Kotaku, Battlefield 6 technical director Christian Buhl did acknowledge the challenges that went into running the game well on Xbox Series S.
I will say that the biggest thing we did that was a challenge for us was (dealing with the console’s limited) memory..
They also acknowledged that the Xbox Series S has less memory than a mid-spec PC and that the game was continuously crashing 6-12 months ago on the budget console. As such, the team focused on optimizing the game’s memory overall and specifically for the Xbox Series S.
The end result was that the game was more stable and performed better on all platforms thanks to the memory optimization.

On Xbox Series S, Battlefield 6 Beta hit a consistent 60FPS on 1080p resolution with just a little sacrifice in visual fidelity, like low-resolution shadows, scaled-down terrain, etc.
Previously, the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 developers had a similar statement, saying that the game’s good optimization is partially due to the effort put into it specifically for the Xbox Series S.
