- Following the success of Black Myth: Wukong, more Chinese developers are emerging.
- A Chinese developer has just recently unveiled a new game, The Lost Heaven.
- This game shares many similarities with The Last of Us series, including the presence of robots.
Black Myth: Wukong put China firmly on the map of AAA gaming, shattering almost every record in sight. It remains the most-played single-player game on Steam to this day.
Of course, we can’t expect groundbreaking hits like this every other month, but Chinese developers aren’t slowing down. Phantom Blade Zero is already shaping up to be another major contender, and now, yet another studio has stepped into the spotlight with an ambitious new project.
Their game, The Lost Heaven, draws clear inspiration from The Last of Us but adds its own twist: giant robots.
Why it matters: With China’s growing presence in the gaming industry, it shows no signs of slowing down, and could soon give Western developers a serious run for their money.
While there are some controversies regarding part 2, many gamers love The Last of Us Series, and rightfully so. Given how much the series is loved, it would make sense why developers would take it as an inspiration.
The series is good, as recently, a former Rockstar developer said that Rockstar should take inspiration from TLOU2 for melee combat.
The upcoming Chinese title The Lost Heaven recently received a gameplay demo, offering a glimpse of what’s in store. It’s a narrative-driven, post-apocalyptic sci-fi adventure where players must survive in a world teetering on the brink of collapse.
In that sense, it looks similar to The Last of Us, but there are robots, even as companions. The traversal may not be as smooth, but it is still a work in progress, and it can get a lot better. The combat, on the other hand, seems pretty solid, especially the melee part, as you can feel each blow landing.
The gunplay also looks promising, and it feels like a linear game. The game doesn’t have a release date, but from the title of the YouTube video, it seems like it is targeting a 2026 release window.
