Battlefield 6 Prioritizes Fun And Balance Over Realism, Says Dice Dev

"BF6 Has Believable Universe, But We're Not Trying To Be Realistic"

Story Highlight
  • Battlefield 6 depicts realistic elements with its destruction, gunplay, and more.
  • Despite these elements, Dice says the game is more focused on fun and balance than realism.
  • The first-person shooter will still be more grounded than competitors like Call of Duty.

Battlefield 6 has turned many heads following its multiplayer gameplay reveal. In fact, the game has already topped Steam charts, and the early access beta test is seeing unprecedented demand from players.

Dice has clearly done a lot right with this iteration of the series, with many appreciating the destruction and attention to detail. In particular, fans have come to appreciate the more realistic elements of Battlefield 6, but Dice says the game doesn’t strive to be as realistic as possible.

Why it matters: Battlefield has never been considered a military simulation game, but it has typically stuck to a style of gameplay closer to reality. It seems Battlefield 6 is taking the same approach.

Dice Responds To Debate About Realism In BF6 | Image via Twitter

Dice’s Principal Game Designer recently addressed fan concerns regarding sniper glints. For context, snipers have a distinct glint in Battlefield 6 that reveals their location from afar.

The developer confirmed that glints would be toned down but not removed entirely. This prompted a response from Twitter user bighungry, who claimed that Battlefield 6 seems to be going for a realistic feel, but this decision goes against the realistic elements.

The Dice developer then confirmed that the team places fun and balance above realism. However, the game is still set in a believable and more grounded universe for immersion’s sake.

Compared to milsim games like Arma or Squad, the game is still very arcady in nature. At the same time, it retains realistic weapon-handling, destruction, and lifelike visuals to somewhat emulate a war-like experience.

Dice has confirmed that fans won’t see microtransactions like Call of Duty’s in Battlefield 6, further adding to the game’s believability. However, this statement also means that fans can expect balance changes and gameplay design choices that don’t necessarily depict reality.
