Reached 3 Million Milestone 7x Faster Than Doom Eternal Despite Recent Concerns!

Story Highlight
  • Doom: The Dark Ages has achieved the 3 million player benchmark in under a week.
  • The game achieved this player count 7x faster than Doom Eternal.
  • This success should pave the way for more Doom games after the reboot trilogy.

Doom: The Dark Ages has been just as much of a critical success as its predecessors, but the game’s commercial success raised eyebrows recently. id Software’s latest release failed to make much of an impact on Steam, leading to questions about its success.

The developer also remained silent, creating further concern, but this silence has just been broken. As per the studio’s latest update, Doom: The Dark Ages has ripped and torn its way to 3 million players.

Why it matters: Because of the game’s low Steam player counts, many were concerned that Doom had begun to lose its popularity despite the solid gameplay.

Doom Is Still Wildly Popular All These Years Later

As per Bethesda’s X account, Doom: The Dark Ages is the series’ biggest launch to date. In fact, the game is now the biggest launch from id Software. This is a very impressive feat considering the history and legacy of the studio.

Doom: The Dark Ages has also reached the 3 million player milestone 7x faster than its predecessor. This is yet another impressive feat since Doom Eternal remains one of the genre’s finest titles to date.

It should be noted that id Software’s latest release makes the studio’s first day-one Game Pass launch. As such, the subscription service likely played a major role in propelling the title to 3 million players within a week.

id Software Still Expects More Doom Titles In The Future

Following this success, the Doom Slayer’s future should be safe for the next few years. Although rumors have suggested that id Software will pivot to Quake after this release, another Doom entry is more or less guaranteed.
