- Arrowhead Studio has announced work on its next project that will be self-funded.
- The CEO said they will ‘100%’ call the shots this time.
- While details on the title are scarce, it will likely be another multiplayer title with a chance of releasing on Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 consoles.
One of the biggest releases for 2024 was Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2, a rare occasion of a live-service game succeeding. Rather than being driven by monetisation, the game focused on a socially driven experience, with meaningful content delivered through consistent updates.
Despite being an AA game, Helldivers 2 outsold many multi-hundred-million-dollar projects, doing wonders for its developer studio. Arrowhead is already working on its next title, which will be self-funded without a PlayStation partnership.
Why it matters: With PlayStation’s partnership, the gaming giant had the most control over Helldivers 2’s direction, including its exclusivity to their platform. However, a self-funded project will leave Arrowhead Studio to guide the project itself.

The studio’s CEO, Shams Jorjani, provided an update on Discord recently:
Game 6 (our next project) will happen the way it will happen thanks to you. The next game is 100% funded by ourselves so we’ll call 100% of those shots.
This would mark their 6th title, and the CEO said they’ll make the decisions regarding the game themselves.
Replying to a comment that if this was a shot at PlayStation, the CEO further clarified the situation:
No way. Playstation are great… We’re open to working with them again in the future. And this is me just saying it like it is. Not blowing smoke up their asses.
As the CEO stated, Arrowhead would partner with PlayStation again if given the opportunity. PlayStation’s partnership elevated Arrowhead Studios in the first place by truly pointing out their potential. As such, the next PlayStation partnership may even have a greater budget.

Details on Arrowhead’s Game 6 are currently scarce, but judging by the studio’s track record, it will most likely be a multiplayer game. Going live service again won’t be a problem for them, as they’ve already won players’ hearts with Helldivers 2.
Moreover, a self-funded project may also mean their next game will be available on Xbox and the Nintendo Switch 2.
