Scrapped Due to Leadership Issues & Unreal Engine 5 Shift!

Story Highlight
  • Halo Infinite’s 10-year plan was scrapped due to leadership issues and an engine shift to UE5.
  • Its campaign was delayed and heavily cut, including the canceled Atriox’s Reign DLC.
  • Planned modes like Battle Royale and Warzone never materialized, disappointing fans.

Since Bungie’s farewell to Halo, the IP hasn’t been going smoothly. The latest Halo Infinite disappointed long-term fans.

This is partially due to the entire roadmap of Halo Infinite being altered from its initial vision. 343 Industry originally had a 10-year plan for the game.

While earlier details were scarce, a new leak reveals the 10-year plan included yearly DLC and new multiplayer modes that would’ve kept the game fresh for years to come.

Why it matters: Halo Infinite felt incomplete at launch, with missing content, which led to the game’s demise. Had the 10-year plan been in action, things would’ve turned out differently for the game.

Rebs Gaming, a reputable leaker for Halo, recently published a video on YouTube that delves into 343’s original vision for the game.

According to him, Halo Infinite was supposed to launch as a multiplayer-only game in 2019, with the campaign added a year later. Moreover, DLCs would be released yearly to keep things fresh and players engaged.

Rebs also revealed that the game had a DLC titled “Atriox’s Reign,” featuring a warlord system in the open world. He added that the studio cut the campaign to around 50% until it was 2/3 of the original length, and no DLC was ever developed.

Regarding multiplayer, he mentioned Project Tatanka, a Battle Royale mode for the game and returning Warzone from earlier Halo games.

Recent Changes At Halo Studios Are Worrying Fans.

However, none of this came to fruition due to 343 Industry’s leadership issues and the franchise’s shift towards Unreal Engine 5, which ultimately canceled all future planned content.

With the franchise starting fresh, 343 Industry has rebranded as Halo Studios. The next Halo game is reportedly deep into development, with a potential reveal for later this year.
