- Black Myth: Wukong, the biggest hit of 2024, was a target of unjustified criticism by some media.
- However, despite that, the game managed to win the Ultimate GOTY at the Golden Joystick Awards 2024.
- It has also been nominated as a GOTY at The Game Awards 2024.
Black Myth: Wukong the Chinese RPG that took everyone by surprise broke so many records on launch. Now, the game has dominated the Golden Joystick Awards 2024 as the Ultimate Game of the Year which is a huge success for The Game Science.
Why it matters: Despite being the biggest hit this year Wukong received a lot of backlash from various media due to featuring less diversity and inclusivity. Not only that but many didn’t like it being a Game of the Year nominee at The Game Awards 2024.
Golden Joystick Awards 2024 has been concluded with announcing Black Myth: Wukong as the Ultimate Game of the Year. Now, this outcome is pretty surprising but well-deserving.
The game has received some unfair hate which doesn’t do it justice but it is great to see the massive award show giving it what it deserves.
Games like Astro Bot, Balatro, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Metaphor ReFantazio were also nominated for the award yet the award was too heavy to be lifted by anyone other than Sun Wukong.
Metaphor: ReFantazio, Silent Hill 2, Helldivers 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are at 5th, 4th, 3rd, and 2nd positions, respectively.
Nonetheless, we would like to congratulate The Game Science for this outstanding achievement. Fans should also note that the tale of Sun Wukong isn’t finished yet as DLCs are already being developed and one of them is targeting an early 2025 release window.
