PS5 Pro Can’t Run Games Like Baldur’s Gate 3 At 60FPS, Reveals Expert

CPU Limitations Are Hurting The Pro!

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation 5 Pro, a mid-gen refresh, has been highly criticised due to its price tag.
  • The console has shown some CPU limitations that may cause some controversy.
  • It can’t run CPU-bound games like Baldur’s Gate 3 at 60FPS.

PS5 Pro is now finally available and is hailed as the most powerful console right now. That is because Xbox didn’t go for a mid-gen refresh, so there isn’t anything to compare it with except, of course, a PC.

The pro console has been criticised a lot due to its hefty price tag, but many fans have been convinced down the line that it could be worth an upgrade. Now, one of the most reliable tech reviewers has revealed their thoughts about the console.

While the overall verdict seems positive, there are some issues. The Pro version can’t seem to run games like Cyberpunk 2077, Baldur’s Gate 3, Final Fantasy 16, and Alan Wake 2 at 60FPS.

Why it matters: There is a long wait left for the next PlayStation console, so fans have been expecting the pro version of PS5 to easily run games at 60FPS, but it seems to have some limitations.

There are plenty of FPS drops when running Elden Ring on the console, which seems pretty disappointing compared with the likes of RX 6800, a 4-year-old card. Nonetheless, GPU-bound games have seen a lot of improvement, but is that the same case with CPU-bound video games?

The pro console has an extra 10% CPU clock, so games like Cyberpunk 2077 look better than before. However, the issue is with the frame rates, which constantly drop below 60FPS.

Another test Digital Foundry did was with a pro-enhanced game, Baldur’s Gate 3. The FPS here are quite terrible, as in the performance mode, most of the time, you will see FPS close to 40.

Rich Leadbetter, the reviewer, further reveals that those who have been thinking about shifting from PC to Pro should note that the mainstream CPUs in the PC space are significantly better than the Zen 2 in the PS5 Pro.

High-end PC CPUs are about twice as fast, so of course, there is going to be a lot of difference. That said, what do you think about the limitations of the PlayStation 5 Pro?
