BioWare Pushing Frostbite Engine To Limits!

Story Highlights
  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard is confirmed to target 60FPS on consoles.
  • The title will feature both a performance and a quality mode for more flexibility.
  • It’s still under development, so resolution targets will be shared later.

Bioware just released an in-depth look at Dragon Age: The Veilguard after a brief trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase. The detailed gameplay gave us a comprehensive look at the stunning visuals, and we are glad to report that it also supports 60 FPS.

Why it matters: The game boasts excellent graphics, which is why many fans were worried about a potential 30FPS lock. However, BioWare has confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will support 60FPS on consoles.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard features brilliant visuals.

The game runs on EA’s in-house Frostbite engine. As reported by IGN, it will also feature feature both performance and quality modes. This suggests that BioWare has done a decent job with optimization.

Large-scale RPGs like Dragon’s Dogma 2 were unable to aim for this target due to the scope of the open world. This proved to be very taxing on the CPU, leading to an unlocked frame rate that stayed close to 30FPS most of the time.

However, BioWare’s latest title is not a fully open-world RPG. Therefore, the team has decided to offer a 60FPS mode.

The Veilguard will offer both quality and performance modes.

BioWare has refrained from sharing any exact resolution targets for the time being. However, the developers stated that they are currently working on polishing the title further, so they will share more information soon.

Elsewhere, various other details on the game have been unveiled.

BioWare is looking to create a more action-packed experience this time. The team states that combat is more of a focus in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, with many moves like dodge, counter, and parry for further depth. The 60FPS focus should make this combat even better.
