Just Wait For Next-Gen RTX 50 Cards!

Story Highlights
  • Nvidia’s AD106 GPU is reportedly facing a shortage.
  • The distribution of AD106 was limited to 50 units per shipment recently.
  • Graphic cards using this chip could become more expensive due to limited supply.

The Ada Lovelace AD106 GPU used inside the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti cards is reportedly becoming harder to find due to a supply shortage. Board Channels has reported a sharp decline in the availability of GPUs with AD106 architecture.

Why it matters: The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti is already considered a poor-value graphics card due to its price. However, the price could increase further.

The RTX 4060 Ti Could Become Much Harder To Find

The GeForce RTX 4060, RTX 4060 Ti 8GB, and RTX 4060 Ti 16GB graphics cards are all powered by this GPU. Furthermore, because of its widespread use, particularly in the mid-range sector, a decrease in supply may significantly impact pricing.

There has been a significant decline in the availability of AD106 in the first two weeks of April. The distribution of RTX 4060 Ti was subsequently limited to roughly 50 units per shipment. Not only that, but this shortage appears to be affecting every company, not just one particular brand.

There can be many reasons why the AD106 GPU from Nvidia is currently the only one affected by the shortage. One possibility could be that Nvidia is concentrating its manufacturing capacity on higher-end cards like its $40k AI monster or the RTX 4090.

These are much more profitable for Nvidia than mid-gen cards.

Fortunately, as the new generation approaches, there should be less of a need for graphics cards from the RTX 40 series. As buyers await the next big thing, most interested parties have already upgraded to the GeForce RTX 40 series.

Upgrading to the current generation Nvidia cards might be tempting, especially with the expected discounts. However, it’s best to wait for the upcoming Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 series codenamed Blackwell.
