73/100 On Metacritic!

Story Highlights
  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora reviews are out today.
  • The game has been highly praised for its beautiful visuals, scoring 73/100 on Metacritic.
  • However, beyond Pandora, the game falls short.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is bringing James Cameron’s incredibly well-received film franchise to the world of gaming. With a partnership between Lightstorm and Massive Entertainment, this game portrays a faithful recreation of the Avatar world.

First impressions seem promising, as the developers have recently confirmed that it would support 60 FPS on consoles, ensuring a smooth gameplay experience at all times.

With the game’s release just one day away, initial reviews have also begun to surface, including our own.

Why it matters: The Avatar franchise has not received too many games in the past, but Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment seek to change this trend with a high-quality AAA adaptation.

The game appears to be receiving decent scores, currently averaging 73/100 on Metacritic.

At the time of writing, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has received only 26 reviews, so the ratings may change slightly depending on how many reviews it gets. The following are some of the review scores:

  • IGN 7/10
  • VGC 4/5
  • TheGamer 4/5
  • Gamespot 8/10
  • XboxEra 8.8/10
  • GamesRadar 3.5/5

The game has received most of the praise for its beautiful world. Pandora, inspired by the movies, allows players to immerse themselves in a new continent of the location, becoming the defining feature of this title.

In terms of gameplay and structure, it borrows a lot from familiar Ubisoft titles. This has received mixed reactions, with some critics enjoying the familiarity while others disliked retreading the familiar formula.

Critics also believe that Massive Entertainment’s take on the series is not very newcomer-friendly. Additionally, the choice of a first-person camera perspective has not been to everyone’s liking.

Despite these faults, overall reception has been encouraging.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Our review was among the more positive ones for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. We believe Massive Entertainment accomplished the tasks it set out to achieve. The studio created an immersive world, which does the heavy lifting for the 15-20 hour main story.

Nonetheless, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be released worldwide tomorrow. While the game is priced at $70, Ubisoft’s subscription should allow fans to try it at a much cheaper cost tomorrow.
