Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 Rating Points To PS4 Release

However, Xbox One Release Seems Unlikely!

Konami is reviving the Metal Gear Solid franchise in 2023. After a long hiatus, the series will return with a brand new remake and the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1, with the latter scheduled for 2023.

The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 was announced for current-generation consoles, Nintendo Switch, and PC in May, but the game was recently rated by the ESRB.

In addition to the announced platforms, the new rating appears to confirm a PS4 release for the collection.

Why it matters: The PS4 has sold over 110 million units over its lifespan. Therefore, a PS4 release would allow the older titles to reach a wider audience through the last-generation console.

The ESRB has mentioned all the platforms for the collection. While the game was already announced for various consoles, it has also been rated for the PS4.

This means that a PS4 release is more or less confirmed. Since the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 includes games around two decades old, the aging PS4 hardware will not lead to any development hurdles.

Unfortunately, the rating implies that PS4 will be the only last-generation home console to receive the collection, with Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 skipping a release on the Xbox One.

Recent games like Resident Evil 4 Remake have also skipped a release on the Xbox One, despite being available on the PS4. This is likely to disappoint users on the last-generation Xbox consoles again.

The first three Metal Gear Solid games are arriving on modern consoles as part of the collection on October 24. In addition to other games, Konami has packed extra content like soundtracks and graphic novels in the collection.

While the first collection has not been released yet, Konami has already hinted at Metal Gear Solid 4 as part of a separate volume. This would make the game playable on platforms other than the PS3 after 15 years.
