Konami Hints At Metal Gear Solid 4 Remaster

MGS4 May Finally Move On From PS3!

After a long time, Konami is back with many new Metal Gear Solid offerings for fans. After the disappointing Metal Gear Survive, Konami has announced Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, along with the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 1 for modern platforms.

The Master Collection includes the first three games and is scheduled to release later in 2023. However, Konami has called it Vol 1, and a new image on the company’s website has fans believing that a Metal Gear Solid 4 Remaster could also be in the works.

Why it matters: Metal Gear Solid 4 is only available for the PS3 console. Due to its complex architecture, PS3 games are not playable on recent PlayStation consoles, and the game has not been ported to any other platforms.

As mentioned earlier, the Master Collection Vol 1 includes three games. However, looking at the image above, there is an additional empty tile with a question mark. On the website, Konami states:

“Stay tuned for more information.”

With the missing space and Konami’s reignited interest in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, another Master Collection seems likely. As such, Master Collection Volume 2 could include the much-requested Metal Gear Solid 4 Remaster.

It should also be noted that the Master Collection Vol 1 does not offer wholly reworded versions of the classic games. Instead, a listing on PSN confirmed that Konami offers Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 HD Collection versions in the upcoming release.

Unlike these games, Metal Gear Solid 4 has not received a rework. Since the game was designed exclusively for the PS3 hardware, it will likely need to be reworked for modern consoles instead of a simple re-release.

As such, it would also make sense for Konami to include changes like a higher resolution, improved frame rates, and more.

This should be exciting for fans, as it could mean the entire franchise will soon be available on modern systems. Konami may also continue to remake the franchise after Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater, similar to Capcom’s approach with Resident Evil.
