For a long time, Sony has continued to provide high-quality hardware. The PlayStation consoles have all performed well and received acclaim from fans worldwide. Sony has also been known to revise hardware and release new consoles like the PS4 Pro and PSP in the middle of home console generations.
Tom Henderson, a well-known industry insider, claimed a while back that his sources had informed him that the PlayStation 5 Pro was in development and had a tentative release date of late 2024.
Following up on this information, Tom Henderson has now stated during a recent stream on his YouTube channel that Sony is developing a new piece of hardware that will be released before the PS5 Pro.
There is no further information about the new hardware, but Tom Henderson says he will talk more about it soon.
We could be supposedly looking at a release date for the new hardware in late 2023 or early 2024 if we take Tom Henderson’s suggested PS5 Pro release date into consideration. This, of course, is just pure speculation.
The new hardware’s nature is unknown, although many people have already begun speculating about what it might be. Some think Sony may be diving back into the portable console market.
Given how well the Nintendo Switch and the Steam Deck have performed, it would be interesting to see Sony re-enter the handheld console market. The new hardware could also be an extension of Sony’s PS VR2, but nothing is set in stone yet.
It should also be noted that Tom is unlikely to be referring to the previously rumored PS5 refresh with a detachable disc drive.
