- 007 First Light received 20 minutes of new gameplay footage recently.
- The gameplay shows several moments of frame rate dips during intense action sequences.
- These instances have created concerns about the game’s final performance ahead of launch.
007 First Light marks the return of James Bond to the gaming industry. Following iconic titles like 007 Goldeneye, the popular character is finally returning with a fully-fledged, single-player action game from IO Interactive.
Uncut gameplay of the title was also showcased during the latest State of Play, but reactions to the footage have not been the most positive. In fact, many fans have noticed glaring performance issues in the gameplay.
Why it matters: Trailers typically highlight games at their best, so problems in preview footage are rarely a good sign for the final release.
Following the gameplay debut, fans took to Twitter to discuss the many elements of 007 First Light.
As NikTek pointed out, the game seems to run well below 30FPS during the most intense sections. In fact, the frame rate stands out so much that one user on the Steam Forums dubbed the game a low FPS Just Cause spin-off.
Since the footage shown at the State of Play likely depicted the game’s performance in Quality mode, it can only be assumed that similar frame rate dips are currently present in the 60FPS Performance mode.
Some fans have even called for a delay to 007 First Light to ensure the game launches in the best state possible. Meanwhile, others joked about the game’s title, noting that the ‘007’ could represent the frame rate of the game in this case.
The good news is that the title is still several months away. Even without a delay, IO Interactive has time to address current criticism and work toward a stable gameplay experience.
The game is currently set to launch on March 27, 2026, and perhaps upcoming footage will show improved performance in the coming months.
