Silent Hill 2 Remake Sold Over Three Times More On PS5 Than PC In Europe

Performing Better Than The Likes of Alan Wake 2!

Story Highlight
  • Silent Hill 2 remake has sold over 1 Million copies worldwide.
  • It seems like, in Europe, the game’s presence is pretty low, as the region accounts for only 20% of the total sales.
  • Also, PlayStation 5 accounts for 78% of the sales in Europe, while PC accounts for only 22%.

The Silent Hill 2 remake was recently released and received really positive impressions. Fans have highly praised the game since it launched, with over 95% positive reviews on Steam. It’s also launched to over 23K players on Steam.

However, it seems like the game’s main audience is on the PlayStation 5. According to an analyst, In Europe, 78% of Silent Hill 2’s launch sales were on PS5, and just 22% were on the PC, meaning the former accounts for over three times the sales.

Why it matters: PC is arguably the bigger platform for gaming, and many polls have suggested that it is a fan-preferred platform; however, the original Silent Hill 2 was a PS2 exclusive, which makes sense why its main fandom would be on a PlayStation console.

According to Christopher Ding, the head of Gamesindustry.biz, PlayStation 5 accounts for 78% of the games in Europe. The analyst has been accurate on multiple occasions and is well-known in the industry for providing insights on sales.

During the latest Microcast, Ding revealed some more information regarding the remake. First of all, Europe isn’t the number one market for Silent Hill 2, so it accounted for just 20% of the overall sales, meaning just 200K out of 1 million.

The game could have sold more copies on the PC platform in some other regions. However, as the original title was a PS2 exclusive, it shouldn’t be surprising that most of the sales came from the PS5.

Ding also revealed that even after having a strong commercial presence, Silent Hill isn’t the biggest horror franchise, which should be pretty obvious given how worldwide renowned the Resident Evil franchise is.

However, it is still performing better than the likes of Alan Wake 2 and The Callisto Protocol, with the former still not being profitable to Remedy. So, even if it didn’t perform that well in Europe, it seems to be performing great overall.
