PlayerXP has released an Assassin’s Creed Shadows community sentiment report. More than 120K people were involved in the analysis over multiple platforms like YouTube, X, Facebook, and TikTok.
Based on the overall reports, the game got a -13, which indicated a negative sentiment across the community. The sentiment is largely due to the depiction of history and Yasuke’s representation as a samurai. Some also complained about forced inclusivity.
The report has been broken down into multiple talking points. These include Japanese culture, Ubisoft as the publisher, Yasuke, historical inaccuracy, and the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Out of these, the most negative sentiment was around the representation of Japanese culture.
Other points highlighted in the report include Ubisoft’s monetization. Fans are concerned that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be similarly monetized as past RPGs, leading to a loss of trust within the community.
Due to all the controversy around the historical inaccuracy, Ubisoft stated that its games don’t represent history. The publisher is also mixing LGBTQ elements in feudal Japan, further upsetting many fans.
Still, some fans remain excited about the release. Many even believe that Ubisoft could outdo Ghost of Tsushima, though this remains to be seen. Ultimately, the publisher has an opportunity to surprise everyone.
With the game just three months away, seeing the results after all this controversy will be interesting. Assassin’s Creed entries usually sell well, and we can expect the latest release to be no different in this regard.
