New PlayStation CEO Shaking Things Up!

Story Highlight
  • Helldivers 2 could be receiving a port for Xbox.
  • Reliable leaker Nick Baker states that early discussions are underway for such a port.
  • This change may have come as a result of PlayStation’s new CEO, Hiroki Totoki.

PlayStation’s third-person multiplayer shooter Helldivers 2 has gained unrivaled popularity due to its fun and democratic gameplay. The game has even managed to outdo the likes of Palworld, remaining one of Steam’s biggest titles two months after launch.

However, it seems PlayStation is looking to expand this success further. According to a new report, early discussions may be underway for a Helldivers 2 Xbox port.

Why it matters: There has been plenty of demand for an Xbox port already. A petition created by fans reached nearly 100K sign-ups within a few days.

During the latest episode of the Xbox Era podcast, Nick Baker pointed to early rumblings of this co-op shooter heading to Microsoft’s console platform.

He states that CEO Hiroki Totoki is more open to experimenting with a multiplatform approach. This was already evident after he confirmed intentions to launch games on PC more frequently.

What I’ve heard is that there may be early discussions about the possibility of Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox.

The CEO may be going one step further now. Nick Baker states that this does not mean a port is guaranteed to happen. He warns that discussions can always fall apart, so fans should not jump to conclusions on their own.

However, looking at how well Xbox’s Sea of Thieves is doing on PlayStation, there may be good reason for Sony to consider a port. A bigger player base is never a bad thing for a live-service game, so Helldivers 2 would benefit from moving to Xbox.

Helldivers 2 Was The Biggest Game of February 2024

Considering exclusivity is not as important today, there is some hope for Xbox fans looking to play this multiplayer shooter.

This IP is also far from PlayStation’s biggest franchises, so Sony may be more willing to share it with rivals compared to a game like God of War.

Earlier this month, the co-op shooter recorded 300K concurrent Steam players. Therefore, interest in the game is still high, and this may be the right time to decide if PlayStation wants to expand it further.
