Potential Stutters And Lousy Optimization Is Already A Concern!

Story Highlight
  • Gearbox Software has confirmed that Borderlands 4 is built using Unreal Engine 5 and supports cross-play.
  • Some fans are worried that UE5 might cause potential stutters and bad optimization in the game.
  • Unreal Engine 5 has become notorious over the years for causing optimization issues in big games.

Borderlands 4 was officially teased earlier this year after the gargantuan box office flop to instill hope in franchise fans. Since then, the excitement for the entry has slowly been bubbling—especially after the first official gameplay trailer. So, the expectations for Borderlands 4 are at an all-time high right now. However, a new finding suggests the game might suffer from stutters and bad optimization.

Gearbox Software has confirmed that Borderlands 4 is built using Unreal Engine 5. This tidbit has made many players happy, but some are also concerned that UE5 might lead to many issues.

Why it matters: UE5 is one of the most regarded game engines, but it also causes stutters and bad optimization in games. Fans worry Borderlands 4 might suffer the same dilemma.

In an interview with Famitsu, Borderlands 4 project producer Anthony Nicholson’s latest Borderlands 4 tidbit has made fans think UE5 might cause the entry to need high system requirements just to run without problems, while others worry about performance issues.

Thanks to Unreal Engine 5 […], we are able to design each area of the world, even though it is this [Huge] size, […] so that players can do more while they are exploring.

All in all, it is best to take the anxieties of potential micro-stuttering and bad optimization with a grain of salt. Despite many janky releases, some titles, like Marvel Rivals, have not suffered from the alleged issues caused by UE5.

Borderlands 4 is expected to launch sometime next year for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, but a release date is still unclear.

Do you think Borderlands 4 using Unreal Engine 5 will prove to be a problem down the road, or are these fans concerned over nothing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the official Tech4Gamers forum.
