Control 2 on Track To Enter Full Production In 2025!

Story Highlight
  • Alan Wake 2 was released on October 27 2023, and it still hasn’t been profitable.
  • However, the game has managed to recoup most of its development and marketing expenses.
  • The Lake House expansion and Physical Deluxe Edition were released after the end of the quarter, so the title is likely to be profitable in the next earnings report.

Alan Wake 2 is arguably one of the best games of 2023. It was a GOTY contender, and, of course, many fans were rooting for it to win the award, but Baldur’s Gate 3 dominated the competition. However, it took home the best narrative award at TGA 2023.

Despite being one of the most notable games of 2023, it still hasn’t been profitable even after over 1 year of launch

Why it matters: Alan Wake 2 became the fastest-selling Remedy game, but it still hasn’t recouped all of its development and marketing budget.

Alan Wake 2 Still Not Profitable
Alan Wake 2, One of The Best Releases Last Year, Is Still Not Profitable

Remedy has revealed its earnings report for Q3 2024, and revenue seems to have seen a solid increase. However, according to the report, Alan Wake 2 has recouped most of the development and marketing expenses

At the end of the quarter, Alan Wake 2 had recouped most of its development and marketing expenses but had yet to generate any royalties.

So, the game has managed to recoup most of its development and marketing expenses, but not all of them, so it is not profitable yet. Despite setting a new high for horror games, Alan Wake 2 unfortunately didn’t sell well, and the main reason for that was the lack of a physical copy and a release on Steam

Steam is the fan’s favourite platform on PC, so not releasing a game on it can hurt a lot of sales. Also, fans should note that The Lake House expansion and the game’s physical deluxe edition were released after the end of the quarter.

So, by the time Remedy releases its Q4 earnings report, the game is highly likely to be profitable. The earnings report also revealed that there had been good progress in the game line-up, and Control 2 is on track to reach full production in 2025
