New Game Reveals & Another Shadow Drop!

Story Highlights
  • Xbox holds its developer-direct event in the first month of the year.
  • A leaker has claimed that the event will be held this month, and an official announcement of the event will be made soon.
  • He further claimed that DoubleFine plans to shadow-drop a title similar to the Hi-Fi Rush.

2024 already seems to be a great year for gaming, especially after 2023, a period marking some of the best 12 months in gaming. Last year, Xbox also kicked off its Developer Direct to reveal new games and shed light on announced projects.

The 2023 Developer Direct revealed Hi-Fi Rush, Xbox’s highest-rated game of the year. A new report claims Xbox is returning with another showcase this month, planning to unveil more exciting games.

Why it matters: Xbox has already announced so many games for the future that the company requires multiple showcases in any given year to cover its first-party releases.

This report comes from eXtas1s, who has previously leaked information about games like Baten Kaitos and Goldeneye 007 accurately. According to his sources, the next developer direct will be held this month, and an official announcement will be made just a week before the event.

Like 2023, the event will likely be held during the last week of January, so an update could be provided in the next two weeks. Fans can expect Xbox to highlight games like Hellblade 2 and Avowed at the event since these are the major AAA releases of the 2024 lineup.

While this report was already interesting due to the excitement of last year’s event, eXtas1s further points to the possibility of DoubleFine showcasing a new game similar to Hi-Fi Rush.

This game may be shadow-dropped like Tango Gameworks’ approach with Hi-Fi Rush, but this remains to be seen. The leaker speculated that the title in question is KILN, a game trademarked by Microsoft last year.

The leaker also claimed that he should be able to provide more information in the coming days, so we can expect to hear more about the developer direct soon. Xbox’s strategy of capturing the public’s attention with an early showcase worked quite well last year.

While PlayStation and Nintendo also had various showcases in 2023, Microsoft immediately made a striking impression with Hi-Fi Rush. Therefore, a similar approach in 2024 could help the gaming giant gain recognition in the public eye.

We look forward to a great show from Xbox. Hellblade 2, in particular, has everyone’s hopes high, with Phil Spencer also anticipating the game as his favorite release of the year.
