Why I Believe Realism In GTA 6 Should Be Limited

Expert Verified By

Realism can sometimes ruin fun in games.

Key Takeaways
  • GTA 6 is anticipated to be one of the most realistic games to date, but this may ruin the experience for some players.
  • One example is the realistic police chase system, which makes it hard to get the police off your back even if you commit a small crime in the game.
  • One way to counter this is to add certain cheat codes in the game that let you turn off certain attributes to retain the fun element.

Rockstar is known for producing many masterpiece games throughout the years. Their games have served the gaming industry like no other game development company’s games have ever done.

One of the biggest reasons their games are on a different level is the attention to detail and focus on realism. Games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 4 prove that. The expectations for realism in GTA 6 are even higher. However, this desire for realism may disappoint many.

Reason Why The Realism Should Be Kept Limited

GTA 6 is expected to be one of the most realistic games ever. These expectations will likely come true, considering how detailed Rockstar went with Red Dead Redemption 2.

These details contribute so much to the gameplay, and fans have also shown appreciation to Rockstar for this. However, these realistic details can sometimes negatively affect the gameplay as well.

For instance, in Red Dead Redemption 2, you almost immediately get a wanted level whenever you commit a crime like stealing a horse or killing an NPC. That happens in other GTAs as well. But what happens here is that you can’t easily get away with that wanted level.

If you stand against the police, your wanted level will keep increasing. With an increased wanted level, you will get a higher bounty on your head, which you will have to pay to call the police off you.

You will get a small bounty even if you immediately leave the area after committing the crime. But the thing that becomes the most troublesome is that if you don’t have enough money to pay off the bounty, you can’t peacefully enter the town where you committed the crime.

If the police see you entering the town, they will start chasing you. And even if you get away, you will get an additional bounty. Ultimately, you will have to pay off the bounty by any means, or you can not enter without the police coming after you.

This great feature adds realism to the game but can sometimes be exhausting. I often want to do what I like in the game without worrying about the bounties and the police problems I will face afterward.

This is still somewhat okay in the world of Red Dead, but if the realism in GTA 6 is of the same magnitude, especially in the police chase system, it will surely affect the fun element in the game by a big margin.

Ways To Keep The Realism Balanced In GTA 6

Red Dead Redemption is a slow-paced and dramatic game, so these details don’t negatively affect the gameplay. But imagine if you intentionally or unintentionally hit an NPC with a car in GTA 6, and you get chased for life until you pay off the fine. Wouldn’t it get annoying at one point?

I will still enjoy the simulation side of things until I feel like taking a car to the beach and running off every NPC I see, which I won’t be able to do because of the realistic police system.

If Rockstar adds this level of realism, they would also need additional features to counter these issues. One example of these features is bribing police officers, which allows you to get away with a crime by paying a comparatively small portion of your money.

Another way Rockstar can make the gameplay experience less stressful and fun for players is to introduce cheat code options for no-wanted levels, infinite health, and more.

Surely, all Rockstar games feature cheat codes for many things,. But cheats for infinite health and no-wanted level are missing from modern games. Once they are included, players will have more freedom in the game.
