WB Still Making Live-Service Superhero Games After Suicide Squad Failure!

Story Highlight
  • We have found a job listing that reveals WB Games Montreal is working on a game based on DC Comics, utilizing a live-service model.
  • Warner Bros. continues to pursue the live-service path, despite recent failures.
  • It’s unlikely that the game will be based on Batman, as Rocksteady is moving forward with its own Batman game.

Known best for the development of Batman: Arkham Origins and Gotham Knights, WB Games Montreal has delivered a mixed bag of results so far. That said, the studio is certainly capable of creating AAA blockbusters if given the right project.

Following its last release, the team is already deep into development on its next title. Now, Tech4Gamers has come across a new job listing for an Executive Producer that reveals key details about the project, including the fact that it is based on a DC Comics IP and utilizes a live-service model.

Why it matters: The live-service model has repeatedly proven to be risky for video game developers. It’s surprising to see that Warner Bros. will continue down this path, given how poorly its recent releases have performed.

We spotted that WB Games Montreal is currently looking to hire an Executive Producer for an unknown AAA Game. The job listing confirms that this game is based on an iconic Warner Bros. and DC Comics property.

The same job listing later states that this project will belong to the live-service genre since the producer is responsible for overseeing the live service strategy for post-launch support.

According to the qualifications section, experience with live-service gaming is also required for this position. This more or less confirms that WB Games Montreal’s upcoming project is a live-service title.

The Studio’s Next Game Is Built On Unreal Engine 5

This game is unlikely to be related to Batman since Rocksteady will be taking the lead on the next Batman project, which may be part of a Batman Beyond trilogy.

As such, the studio appears to be tackling another prominent DC Comics superhero, possibly even Superman, given the character’s high demand for a video game adaptation.
