A Sequel Was Also Refused!

Story Highlight
  • Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown didn’t meet the sales expectations.
  • According to a reliable leaker, Ubisoft has disbanded the whole team.
  • The team seemed to have fought for a sequel, but it was rejected.

Almost all of the recent Ubisoft games haven’t really received a good reception from the fandom. However, one title stood out, and that was Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The game received a great score on Metacritic, and the fandom praised it quite a lot.

However, the games’ sales were really poor. It was previously revealed that it only attracted 300k players. More players might have played it by now, but the sales haven’t improved that much. For those reasons, it seems like Ubisoft has laid off the whole team that worked on this title.

Why it matters: The Lost Crown was arguably a great Prince of Persia game, as it featured great boss battles and really challenging platforming.

Gautoz, a reliable Fench journalist, revealed that the whole team behind the game has been disbanded. The journalist seems to have heard the information from multiple developers at Ubisoft Montpellier.

It was the best game production in my entire life. One after the other i was told it was seen as a beacon of hope to create and a safe space for people that were burnt out by BG&E 2, the team has been disbanded by Ubisoft.

-Gautoz

The French journalist has proven to be reliable, but still, we recommend taking this news with a pinch of salt. That said, if this is true, then it is really unfortunate for the team to be disbanded like this.

The poor sales might have been an indication, but not many would have expected the whole team to be disbanded. It seems like the developers also fought for a sequel, which was refused.

Ubisoft is in really critical condition overall, so it might not have any choice. What do you think about the giant reportedly laying off the entire team? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below or join the discussion at the official Tech4Gamers forums
