- Increasing the difficulty so it is challenging because the base game was too lenient to players.
- Combat animations tweaked, visual enhancements, earn suits by unlocking Riddler’s trophies.
- This mod is still under development, and the release date hasn’t been announced, but once it’s released, it’ll be a treat for the OG players.
Batman: Arkham Knight was a groundbreaking title from Rocksteady Studios. Its so well made that even after 9 years, it remains better than most of the superhero titles we see today. But what if this game were an RPG?
YouTuber, GPUnity, decided to take this matter into his own hands by creating a mod that would completely revamp the game. He has already made mods for Arkham Asylum, City, and Origins, and now it’s time for Arkham Knight.
Increasing Difficulties
GPUnity felt like the game was too linear for the players, so he decided to amp up the difficulty of this game by adjusting many things. This presents a challenge to even those who’ve completed the game multiple times.
New Upgrade System
Now, there would be a completely revamped upgrade system, unlike the previous one, which was too easy on the players. Previously, you could get upgrade points by simple acts such as completing the tutorial.
He intended to balance it out for every player by allowing you to have lower upgrades, so the legendary tier items feel important. This would force players to earn the upgrades instead of handing them out freely.
Difficulty Levels
He has added four difficulty levels, each building on top of the other. Regular is the standard one, Insane is for the players who want to push themselves, and Chaos dramatically increases enemies’ aggressiveness and damage.
The Combat
The free-flow combat of the Batman Arkham Series has already garnered much praise from the gaming community. Despite it already being good, he is making it look better by introducing a few tweaks.
Different FOV
One of the combat moves that Batman had was the super batclaw combo. Many players found the camera animation of this move to be annoying and requested to remove it completely.
But GPUnity decided to keep it and tweak its camera animation. So, he changed its field of view from 45° to 60° at the start and ended the animation by zooming it out to 79°. This gives players more room to look around and looks better than before.
Difficult Parry Attack
There was a move called the Blade Dodge Takedowns, which was simply this game’s parry attack. Previously, it was too easy for the players to parry attacks, so he made the combat harder.
He made enemies attack faster with the blades, so players now have to time it correctly and be quicker to dodge them. Also, failure to dodge them leads to more damage than before, which makes it more challenging.
Boss Fights
Although Arkham Knight has the best boss variety, many of the bosses were underwhelming and didn’t feel challenging enough. GPUnity hasn’t started working on them, but he’s surely planning on tweaking them.
Earn The Suits Through Trophies
There are many suits in the game which you can unlock, such as the Pristine suit after completing the base game. So he decided to make the players earn these suits by collecting Riddler’s trophies.
Now, Riddler’s trophies were already in the base game, and many players knew their locations. If they didn’t, they could find them by just searching the Internet. So, he hid the trophies on his own throughout the map.
Visual Improvements
He has also improved the visuals of the game so that they appear different from the vanilla game. He has adjusted the rain properties to create a heavy atmosphere. This enhances the gritty look making it appear like a movie.
Apart from that, the base game was heavy on green hues when it came to shadows. So, he reduced this color grading, which makes it natural and gives it a more modern touch.
The Batmobile’s smoke was very bright, which he also adjusted by toning it down so it feels more believable. I personally found the previous smoke to be already better but this overhaul might be appealing to other players.
Release Date?
This mod is still under development as only one person is creating it. He says he still has a lot of work and testing to do, and he didn’t reveal the exact release date, but he’s keeping us updated on his YouTube channel.
