With Elden Ring being such a smash hit, people are wondering what From Software has in store next, and they’ve been expressing their wants and needs for the next From Software game. We’ve also decided to participate in the fun, so come along as we list what we want from the next From Soft game!
Big Dark Souls
Elden Ring was a mind-blowing experience for long-time Souls fans. In many ways, this game realized the full potential of what From Software had started with Demon Souls. The gradual refining of the Souls formula led the company to make Elden Ring.
Though most fans consider Elden Ring their magnum opus, people are crafting something a bit less open-ended, more tailored, and precise from From’s next outing.
What’s (Probably) Coming
From Software’s releases follow a pattern: one Dark Souls-y game followed by one spin-off. Miyazaki’s big projects are Dark Souls 1, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3, Sekiro, and Dark Souls 4 or Elden Ring for casuals.
Dark Souls 1, Dark Souls 3, and Elden Ring are all variations of more or less the same formula crafted in Demon Souls, but the two intermittent games (Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice & Bloodborne)are where they experimented to find what works and what doesn’t.
According to the studio’s track record, the next release from From Software is slated to be another spin-off.
What We Want

Short And Sweet
Elden Ring offered an epic, sprawling open world, but we’ve had our fill. Now, we’re ready for From Software’s next game to be more linear and focused, sticking to the formula they created initially.
While Elden Ring‘s vast world was impressive, it had its flaws. After multiple playthroughs, players now crave a more focused experience. Unlike Dark Souls, which consistently builds momentum, Elden Ring often lacked that magic.
We don’t want the next game to be another open-world take; we want a well-crafted, linear adventure that isn’t overwhelming.
Quality Of Life
In the old days with DS1 and Demon Souls, things like quality of life were completely missing from From Software’s games, but that has slowly and gradually changed.
Back then, the run back from the bonfire to the boss used to be regularly harder than the boss itself, but this changed with their later entries, bringing in quality-of-life improvements.
These improvements include the UI, a dedicated jump button, fast travel from the start of the game (arguably a less engaging experience, but not a topic for today), fewer and fewer unforeseen deaths, and many more.
From Software now recognizes the importance of the time of the player, and we hope that the next game also shows us these same small improvements in enjoying the game.
Borrow Concepts
Elden Ring reused many elements from previous From Software games, but that’s not a flaw; it’s a bonus. We hope the next game confidently builds on the systems they’ve perfected.
Demon Souls inspired Dark Souls 1, DS1 inspired Bloodborne, Bloodborne inspired Dark Souls 3, and Dark Souls 3 inspired Elden Ring. You might find something missing in this chain of evolution, none other than the Game Of The Year of 2019, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
One particular thing we would love to see more of is a Sekiro-style combat system, particularly the parry and posture system. It would be amazing if we could get a combat system that feels as melded together as defense and offense did in Sekiro.
Surprises Surprises
Even with all this speculation and wishlisting, we have no idea what the future holds for From Software. Though they have built an amazing reputation, there is no telling what we’ll get next.
Perhaps it’s for the best; From Software often knows what we want better than we do. In 2019, I never imagined wanting a parry-based combat system, but they delivered one of their most polished experiences with an outstanding final boss.
The point is that we’re not sure what exactly Miyazaki’s next venture will be, but all of us are absolutely certain that it will be nothing short of mind-blowing.
