Players Are Already Moving On!

Story Highlight
  • The First Descendant was released last month and became quite popular.
  • It appears that the game has already lost over 60% of its players in less than a month.
  • While the game had a great start, the majority is already moving on from the title.

The First Descendant was released just one month ago and saw a great launch. According to the developers, it has seen over 10 million players just one week after its release. The game has also been part of much controversy, as it was reported that many of the assets in the title were copied from Destiny 2.

While The First Descendant continued to perform well despite this controversy, the game is now losing steam, and players are moving on.

Why it matters: 2024 has already seen many huge releases, like Palworld, which became massive after launch but was unable to sustain the initial excitement. The First Descendant continues this trend.

As seen above, around 94K Steam users are currently playing the title, and around 98K concurrent players were active in the last 24 hours.

Comparing the recent peak to the 264K all-time peak of the title, which was set three weeks ago, it can be seen that players are already moving on. Overall, The First Descendant has lost around 60% of its user base in less than a month.

Since the game was free, it was understandable that a massive number of players jumped in at release. However, it appears that the developers have failed to keep the fans engaged since the numbers are falling rapidly.

Because the game is relatively new, it’s hard to say where it will go from here. If Nexon Korea Corporation can focus on releasing big updates at a steady pace, The First Descendant could continue to thrive.

It still offers solid third-person shooter gameplay, so players would likely be willing to jump back in with the right incentives. As seen with games like Warframe, big and high-quality updates can be game-changing.

With the abundance of live service games on the market, it is certainly challenging for developers to keep fans engaged.

This may be one major reason for The First Descendant’s declining player count, but there is still time for the game to recover. Even if it doesn’t, a player base of 100K users is far from terrible.
